What We Did on Vacation - part two

After a few days at home on Don's vacation, we headed for the cabins. We had reserved two different ones -  because we planned our vacation so late there weren't many options.  This was our first cabin rental.

One of our favorite places is Bay  View State Park, on Padilla Bay, in Skagit County - we drive there often, it is only about an hour from home. They have small camping cottages, as well as camping spaces and RV hook ups,  and we thought it would be fun to try one of the cabins out.  They are primitive - but two of them do have bathrooms, one even has a shower - but that one was already rented.  We brought along sandwiches for our dinner and blueberry muffins and fruit for breakfast the next morning, as there is no cooking in the cabins.

Our view from the deck of the cabin

We were in a wonderful grove of very tall trees

The deck has a porch swing

And baskets of pansies on each end of the deck

Some kids were down on the beach flying kites - it was quite a windy day

The bay is very shallow and when the tide is coming in or going out there are flocks of herons out in the bay in the shallows

Looking for a feast in the waters.  These herons were over half way across a very wide bay - this is with 140X zoom - as close as I could get them.  I'd never seen so many herons at one time in a bay

This little White Crowned Sparrow serenaded us the entire time we were there.

A Red  Tailed Hawk - waiting for lunch

Crow families sat on the wires

One flew away - and as I was taking the shot of the  lone crow - another flew by - lucky shot!

From the deck we could see a speed boat out in the bay pulling a rubber raft with kids in it.  They were having a wonderful time and spent the entire afternoon out there.  We could hear them shouting and laughing, even from far away

Back and forth they went

End of the ride

Time for a dip in the bay for the kids on the raft

And maybe a splash from this slide on a raft in the bay.  Even when the tide is fully in the water under this raft is only about two feet deep - no diving please!

Sailboats moved up and down the bay, the wind was perfect for sailing

Sunset from the deck.

Time for bed - it was a wonderful day!!

Gorgeous views! I love how you described listening to the fun on the water. When we first moved to our home I thought I kept hearing children laughing. Turns out it was the greyhounds (dogs) across the road. lol Unfortunately when I found out, they never sounded like children again. :( But I do get lots of laughter and hollering when the grandkids are here. :)

The cabin is so sweet - there is nothing like a real log cabin! What a beautiful place with the water and mountain views, all the wildlife and tall trees! The herons are amazing and wouldn't it be wonderful to have a sailboat? Glad you had nice weather for your beautiful stay. xo

Looks to be a beautiful place, and I love the thought of staying on a log cabin.

Unusual for herons to flock like that, must have been rich pickings in those waters. My fave shots are the red-tailed hawk. Beautiful bird.

I'm visiting your page via 'NF Winged'.

I think Mitch has written most of what I'd write.
Have a nice day.

The cabin and the porch swing are wonderful. I would like to stay there too. The trees, water and the herons are great. And I love the Hawk shots. Sounds like an awesome place to vacation. Great photos.

What fun! "Primitive" cabins can describe all manner of comforts though the locations can usually make up for any but the worst shortcomings. Looks like you - and everyone around you - had a blast. And how amazing to see so many herons at one time!
