One of our favorite things to do on Friday nights is pack a picnic and drive to the Alaska State Ferry terminal in Bellingham to watch them load the cars, trucks, buses and campers. Often it turns into a car picnic because of the weather.
It was a windy, stormy and often rainy evening recently, but that didn't stop us as we watched the Malaspina depart.
There was a bit of a water spout in the bay - but by the time I got the photo it had mostly disappeared into mist.
A boat at anchor in the bay - it swung around and around on its anchor. The bay is usually very calm - but the wind whipped up the waves this day.
The ferry starting up the channel on its way back to Southeast Alaska. Wonderful memories here - when I was in high school in Sitka, Alaska we would take the ferry to different towns for music festivals. And Don and I rode the ferry on our trip to move back to Sitka after we got married in Forth Worth, TX.
It is going to be an interesting ride once they get out of the bay and into the open ocean.
I did catch one wave on the shore.
