Labor Day Lunch

Labor Day always marks the beginning of the end of summer - plus our family celebrates two birthdays that weekend - Don's and our grandson Jahn's.

Our menu this year was shredded pork sandwiches, cucumber salad, watermelon, raw vegetable tray and dip, and corn on the cob - blueberry pie for dessert.
Gingham checks on dishes tablecloth and napkins
Summer is the perfect time for fresh from the farmer's garden vegetables

The corn casserole is filled with shredded barbecued pork for sandiwches
When we lived in California I was visiting a friend and noticed the corn casserole - and commented on it.  She said she didn't like it and handed it to me - wow - what a surprise.  I have a few other pieces that came from my Granny.
And of course watermelon in my watermelon basket - one of my favorite dishes

It was a great meal

The end of Summer harvest is always so good and all of your shares have made me hungry this early morning. Watermelon is so yummy, but we cannot grow here and the cost has gone sky high to buy~

It looks wonderful. I love the tablecloth (have one) and napkins and how you did your mosaic to circle around the plate--clever! It looks like a perfect nearing the end of summer supper!

These are such beautiful mosaics and photos of the brightly colored vegetables. They stand out just perfectly against the blue and white checkered tablecloth. Veggies can definitely be just as beautiful as any flower, can't they? Happy Monday!

I love pulled pork sandwiches. Everything looks wonderful, especially the watermelon in the watermelon basket. The blue checked tablecloth is the perfect setting for the Corelle Sunsation plates. The yellow flatware and the covered corn serving bowl pick up the yellow in the sunflowers and add a wonderful fall touch to the table.

We had our September birthday party this past weekend. We usually celebrate over Labor Day weekend but had to put it off a week so my son Chris and his wife could get here.

I did find four more place settings of the Sunsation pattern over the winter/spring. The salad plates are sitting on the counter now waiting for me to find my yellow and blue plaid tablecloth so I can set the table with sunflowers.

Have a wonderful week..... Hugs, Candy

What a fun table setting. I can picture an entire table set up with vegetable and fruit shaped dishes. Then just for fun I would put the items in the "wrong" dishes. Corn in the apple dish, applesauce in the beehive dish, potato salad in the corn dish and then watch people's faces as they look for what they want. Snicker.

Mmm, a good meal to end the summer. The corn cob casserole dish is sweet as is the watermelon basket. Years ago I made a baby carriage from a whole watermelon for a shower - was a lot of work. :-)
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday JoAnn.

What a great menu...capped only by the beautiful presentation. I think the watermelon basket is my favorite piece but that corn casserole dish is wonderful, too, with an especially nice story.

I love your special settings. It reminds me a bit of my daughter who worked many years for a fishery. When she went to fish fairs where they get customers who buy containers of fish for their restaurants or stores, instead of just laying out samples of fish, she made an artistic display. People thought she was some kind of a food designer. I think creating a setting is a great talent.

I always love seeing your table settings because they are so inviting! The watermelon dish/basket is my favorite too! It looks great against the gingham tablecloth!
We have a cluster of birthdays between the end of August and mid September - five of them!
