Watermelon Time

I love all things watermelon - and Mothers' Day was the perfect day for a barbecue and watermelon - all  kinds of watermelon.

I once painted my mailbox to look like a slice of watermelon

And I made a watermelon welcome sign

That cute paper plate holder  and napkin holder was a birthday gift this year from my sweet friend Karen - stop by and visit her blog - you'll love it!!

My little metal flower fairy likes picnics - and watermelons too

A watermelon napkin holder

And sunflower napkins too - she sends very nice birthday presents.

The beginning of the table setting for Mothers' Day

The watermelon paper plate holder is perfect for this party.

We did potluck for lunch with our daughters and their families - so much good food

We all brought fruit - so a big fruit salad was the result

I hollowed out a small round watermelon to make a serving bowl - I really do like watermelons

I made the watermelon napkin rings - they are plastic canvas needlepoint.  The napkins are from a thrift store in Mt. Vernon, WA.  It was a wonderful day - and to top it off

Lego Brownies - easy to make.  You need brownies (insert your favorite recipe here), gel food colors (to get those brilliant colors) and M&M candies.  Cut the brownies into squares or rectangles when they are cool.  Mix frostings to match the M&M colors, frost and stick on the candies and you have Brownie Legos - sure to delight any little boy!  These were enjoy by the Grandsons, and the rest of us had a few bites ourselves.

My son loves Legos and brownies... what better combination could there be? I really love watermelon too. Don't you just LOVE summertime when all the fruit is in season? Looks like you had a really wonderful MOther's Day. Are you going to repeat the gathering this weekend, for Father's Day?

You are so darn creative; it boggles the mind. The mailbox alone!

AND I am laughing because I made a trek out to the farm today ( a good 15-20 minutes there ) and came home with local PA strawberries but the rest of the produce was from their sister or partner farm in S. Carolina. A watermelon was NINE dollars there but I had a Fathers Day Friends and Fathers BBQ to attend and thought to cut a nice slice for me to eat and then cut up the rest to take to the party. All the way home I was thinking about how wonderful this watermelon would be. And when I cut it open only about 1/3 was ripe. UGH. Took a picture for the farm so I can get a credit the next time I go out there but HOW FUNNY to see all of your watermelon stuff only a few hours later! :)
