More Shorebirds and A Surprise

More Dunlins in the seasonal ponds on farm fields

 Lined up for a nap
 Fly Away!!

There is a Widgeon among the Dunlins
And far over on the outside of the flocks are some Wood Ducks.  Not their usual habitat, but such an exciting find.  I didn't notice them until I saw the photos on the laptop.  At first I thought they were more Widgeons, but the head shape is so different.

Have you ever noticed something interesting when viewing your photos on your computer?

Eagle Tree

There is a tree outside Edison, WA that has a huge eagle's nest, and often there are many eagles perched there

Hunting the nearby river mouth for their dinner

 They come and go
Some eat their feast in the tree

A Nest and Some Waves

Our rides in February are interesting
We see things that are not visible in the summer
And the waves in Birch Bay are bigger than in the summer
It is usually a calm bay, sheltered by the San Juan Islands

Waves are a joy to watch

Great Blue Heron in Winter

A ride on a sunny day up to Lake Terrell in February
It was frosty and cold - with some ice still lingering on the lake.
The Great Blue Heron looks like he has on his fur coat.
Ice still clings to the log

Azalea Cheer

A wonderful Azalea - a gift from our daughter and her family.
 I love the twisted stem
Such a cheery bush for our living room.

Shorebirds

Now let's look at some shore birds.  These are Dunlins, with a couple of Pintail Ducks mixed in.
The shorebirds fly inland and spend time feasting in the farm fields that are flooded when we have massive amounts of rain.

And Lesser Yellow legs find something to eat here too.
Shorebirds are my favorite kind of birds.  What is your favorite bird?

Back Again

It's been such a long time - since October - since I last posted.

I thought I'd share a couple of winter bird photos to start off with.  I've missed reading all of your blogs too, but I think I'm up to it now, so soon I will be visiting again.
