Mosaic Monday - Vacation Fun

Another thing we did on vacation was to make Gingerbread Pig cookies - with pink frosting on their backs.  They are my daughter-in-law's favorite Christmas cookie - and since they won't be visiting at Christmas, we decided to bake the cookies while they were visiting last week.

I thought a tea party would be perfect for the pink cookies - I chose a pretty pink teapot with creamer and sugar, and pink tea cups -  a lovely pink tea.

The sugar bowl has handles of two colors -  one handle pink and the other handle green, it is one of my favorite parts of this tea set
Cookies and tea - it is decaf black tea - always a hit around here
The tablecloth is from ebay - it is just like one my mother had when I was growing up.
Do stop in for a cup of tea and a cookie

Weekly Top Shot

The three Donalds - Rusty (he really is named Donald, Jr), Donnie and Grampy - in their matching baseball shirts.

Another Osprey

After not ever seeing an Osprey, I have now seen two in just a few weeks.  We were driving along through Birch Bay State Park and I spotted something in a dead tree - wait - stop - focus - ohhhh my - another Osprey. I love the coloring and markings of their feathers.
See the dead tree in the middle of the photo?  The tiny white dot on the right side, near the top - is the Osprey

What an elegant and beautiful bird

My camera is a Nikon CoolPix P600

Friday Green - Vacation Part 2 And a Couple of Critters

These parts of Don's three weeks of vacation are not in order - this is some green we saw on a ride south of here yesterday.
The hay fields have been cut and are growing and green again

Saturday's Critters    Birds sitting in green trees

A very old house with a green mossy roof and green trees.  When we looked closer we saw a new pickup truck sitting in the driveway and it appears someone is "squatting" in this old house. No one seems to be complaining.  It appears the house has been empty for a very long time.
A farmer picking up bales of hay - between the tractor and the trailer is a "flat" of hay bales
They are lifted into place with hydraulics - not like the old days when the bales were thrown up on the trailer by hand.
And the farmer is off to the barn with the load of hay
The green of potato fields is enhanced with the blossoms - pink blossoms mean red potatoes
The green tractor sits in the potato field

This is how they keep the potatoes green - gigantic rainbird sprinklers that cover massive amounts of the crop in one arc.

Friday - Vacation Part One

Five on Friday - it has been a hectic and delightful 2 weeks, with our son and his wonderful family visiting from West Virginia.  Lots of family get togethers (our daughters and their families live here in Bellingham), trips to the park, shopping, breakfast and brunches at restaurants and with friends - barbecues, water fights, balloons, parties - just all around fun - plus our son did lots of work around the house for us and our daughter-in-law did a lot of the cooking while they were here - more about that later.

They left on Wednesday and our house is so quiet - not at all like the fun we had when they were here - things are back in order - breakables have been brought back out (we didn't want our 4 year old grandson to get hurt on anything breakable) and we've settle back into our "old folks" ways again.  Not nearly as much fun as a house bursting with family.

Here are five things we did on vacation (this is just part one of vacation)

 1. We had a picnic in Washington Park in Anacortes

And saw a seal there - what a lucky shot that I caught someone pointing at the seal - they were sitting quite a ways closer to the bay and I just happened to get their hand in the shot of the seal
And took a walk in Washington Park
 2. We went to the museum - Grampy liked the kids' farm in the museum
Donnie like the Farmers' Market in the museum

 3. We ate popsicles
 And giant tomatoes
 4. We played with Grampy - and wore cowboy hats (with a Cookie Monster hat on top of the cowboy hat)
 5. We had a big birthday party - combining several birthdays
 6. (one extra) and we got new suitcases - it was a very fun vacation

Black and White Wednesday - Barns

Tom the Backroads Traveller has posted barns in black and white and I liked it so much that I thought I'd try some.
These are some of my favorite barns from past posts - but with such a different look

Tuesday Afternoon

A lovely home that we saw while out for a ride one day - such peacefulness
Do you ever wonder what is going on in a house? I often make up stories about the family living in the house and what they might be doing.
