Mosaic Monday

Seagulls are some of my favorite birds to photograph.  They are ever beautiful and graceful and the feather patterns are unbelievable.

Flowers on Orcas Island

Last summer we spent a week in a seaside cottage on Orcas Island, one of the San Juan Islands just off the coast of NW Washington State.  The islands extend up into British Columbia too.

The cabin was decorated in charming cottage design and the host brought us bouquets to add to the charm of the cabin.
Roses picked from the bushes growing in pots on the deck

One morning the rain drops covered the flowers outdoors

The scent of roses in the rain is unbelievable.

And a Great Blue Heron by a pond.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is our entertainment for today. Now back to your regularly scheduled life.

Some Cows

Cows looking at us while I take pictures of barns
This cow was licking the mail box post - but stopped when I got out my camera. Wonder if it is salty

Did you ever lick the salt licks for the cows when you were a kid?

The Barn Collective - Barns Old and New

There are many barns in our area, some old and worn out, some new and some old but in good condition.
We have been watching this poor old barn since we moved to Washington in 2001
It continues to fall apart and sag.  It is on the edge of a busy road and there is no other evidence that a farm was in that area at any time.
Blackberries and Elderberries have taken over
This old barn had a lot of ugly machinery in front of it so I just took a picture of the top.  It looks surprised.
These photos are drive by pictures - this has always been one of my favorite farms but it is on a very busy road with a high speed limit and no place to pull over for photos.
The view of the farm and the clouds change as we whiz by.  Do you see the horse near the door in the low barn on the left?
I only took three photos and all three turned out, despite taking them from a moving car.

Garden Tools

I love to collect vintage garden tools.  Looking for a place to hang them I thought of this broken rake - no handle, but I didn't need the handle.  The tines make a perfect rack.

In the bright sun there are wonderful shadows from the tools.

Some Favorites

We have company - our son and family arrived in Seattle at noon yesterday.  We will be having family activities (our daughters and their families live here in Bellingham), picnics, trips, adventures - and I won't have time for two weeks to post - so thought I would show you some of my favorite photos.  I hope you enjoy the next two weeks as much as we plan to.

We stopped at a plant stand one day out in the country - it was so wonderfully decorated

Milk jugs, pieces of wood and old clothes made some great "garden ladies"
I got two white lilac plants - can't wait for them to bloom
Happy gardening!!
