Another Hawk Story

Driving along on the backside of the Lummi Peninsula I saw something up in a tree (no I wasn't driving) - at first it looked like an animal of some kind - but what a surprise - a hawk with wings spread.
We'd never seen a hawk with spread wings before - and from what I've learned - it is either to dry their wings or to warm up in the morning by exposing more surface area to the sun.  Well it was neither morning - nor sunny.  But it was pretty spectacular!
My research brought me to Cooper's Hawk - which is a new life time spotting for me.  I see Red Tail Hawks all the time - this is my first Cooper's.

Posing for a long time - I got lots of photos.
This was the longest time I'd ever seen a hawk stay in one place.
Ready!
Set!
Go!!
And speaking of Red Tail Hawks - another day I captured this one leaving a bush. And that concludes our fun with hawks for today!

Those Red Tail Hawks are handsome fellows, aren't they. Spectacular photos of the wings spread out. How amazing that you should witness this incredible sight.

Hello, JoAnn

Wonderful captures of the Hawks. It was nice of the hawk to stay still and pose for you photos. I usually spook them, they see me watching and take off.
The last shot is great with the wing spread open. Thank you so much for linking up and sharing your post. I also appreciate your comment. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

How blessed you are that the Cooper's sat still for so many shots - you captured exquisite detail! I have seen one once, in our Ohio back yard. It was monitoring our bird feeders for a tasty morsel or two!

Great shots...and what a great sighting, too! I saw two different hawks on a walk today (both probably harriers), each one perched on a post. I was carrying my camera in a backpack and both times the birds took off just as I got camera out. Disappointing, until just after we got home my husband Roger pointed out a kestrel on a wire across from our front porch. And it stayed long enough for me to get a couple of shots.
