Thrift Store Fun

We haven't been to thrift stores for  a long time - and since it was raining this holiday weekend (President's Day today in the U.S - honoring presidents Lincoln and Washington - and others that we admire), we decided to stop at a couple of thrift shops on our day out.
Lots of fun stuff - squirrel plate for autumn, and the gold depression glass candy dish, white corelle berry bowls - they go with anything
Lots of reels of ribbon for doll clothes - these came out to about 25 cents a reel.  The little wooden tulips are for a garden for the dolls, and I got 4 doll stands (on the left in the first photo) for 4.99 for all four - which is about 10% of the original cost.
A deluxe Tripoley game - what a find!  And a better view of the white doll stands on the right.
And one of my favorites - tulip salt and pepper shakers!

Four pretty glass dessert dishes - shall we have an ice cream sundae?

And four skeins of yarn - 8 ounces each - for making hats for the homeless for next winter.  This amount of yarn will make at least 10 hats.
Extra fun this week - I made 13 1/2 pints of jam - raspberry/apricot and bumble berry (a mix of blackberry, blueberry and raspberry), and a fresh apple cake.  The berries and apricots had been frozen last summer - I like to make jam in the winter and not on the warm summer days.  And any time is a good time for an apple cake.
It was a great weekend

JoAnn, Making jam in the winter make so much sense. It's cooler and less busy. It sounds delicious. You made some nice finds. The tulip salt and peppers are nice color. Thanks for sharing. Sylvia D.

What a productive weekend!
Winter jam sounds like such a good decision. I should remember that when I pick berries this summer. I've made winter marmalade but nothing with berries and I do LOVE berries!

JoAnn, I just have one question for you, where do you store all your treasures? From past posts I can see that you have each and every season and holiday covered. You never cease to amaze me with your beautiful things. Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you back again.

I love seeing your thrift store finds. It's fun recognizing things my mother or grandma had. I'm always attracted to spools of pretty thread! You found some nice rolls that will see you through lots of doll clothes!

I would like some berry jam and bread ... please! I think you must of had a wonderful weekend collecting such fun buys at the thrift stores. Thrifting is my favorite thing to do on a rainy day (and sunny days, and foggy days too). The tulip S&P shakers are my favs along with the wooden tulips for a doll garden. With all of those new doll stands you may be needing more dolls! I know a little thrift store that has had a lot of nice dolls lately.

I want to make a small garden for my dolls this summer. It has been so warm this week here in Ohio(75 degrees today) that I was inspired to clean up the fairy garden and get it ready for spring.

It will be getting a lot colder with a rain and snow mix for tomorrow in my neighborhood. A good day to make a pot of chili with a tasty dessert.

Have a lovely evening.... Hugs, Candy

Nice find. I'm looking for a dripolator coffee maker. My perked coffee at the cabin isn't always consistently good. I've been thinking finding some way to to a manual drip system would be better. Now just to find what I need. - Margy
