Cottage Style Party - Our 50th Anniversary

For part of our 50th Anniversary celebration two weeks ago we rented a cabin on the beach on Orcas Island.  It is just over an hour's ride on a Washington State Ferry to the island - and then another 45 minute drive to the cabin.  It rained the whole time we were on the ferry and poured rain all the time Don was unloading the car at the cabin - and then it cleared up and was sunny and fabulous the rest of the weekend.  Perfect timing.

Today I will just show you the outside and the deck at the cabin - another time I'll take you indoors of the charming cottage.
The view as you park at the cottage.  It is located on Obstruction Pass, in a small cove.

Entrance - the decks all have lots of driftwood, which was collected on the beach
Close up of the porthole - even though it is on the starboard side of the house  -  and a driftwood sea serpent
There is a tiny cabin behind the cabin we rented - again with driftwood on the deck.
And deer grazing in the yard between the two cottages
That's our car on the left.  While loading the car to come home the very tame deer tried to get into the trunk to get to our food.  A neighbor saw them and shooed them away.
A nice place to sit on the back deck
Sea serpent railings going down the steps off the back steps

Lots of small stones and shells gathered from the beach
A piling holding up the railing of the back deck
View from the deck of the neighbors' docks and whale weather vane.
On the front deck a weathered wood and driftwood bench
The view from beside the house - the boats came and went the whole time we were there - this was a foggy morning that cleared to delightful sunshine in the afternoon
Mornings there would be dew on the spider webs on the deck.

A driftwood fence next to the tiny cottage
It was a great weekend - and a lovely cottage.  We rented it through AirBnB -  they have wonderful places to rent all over the world.  The owner of this cabin, Jackie, has made it a fabulous experience and the cottage is simply charming.

There were even roses growing on the deck

What a lovely way to celebrate your 50th anniversary. Such a picturesque little cabin. Our daughter and SIL traveled throughout Europe for a year staying in Air BnB places. They loved it. So glad the weather cooperated for you!

I have to chuckle at the rain. Our 50th was last year but was camping at the jamboree and yes, plenty of rain. We had to make a bucket brigade to bail out the campsites. Nothing special this year either. After my English class I went in to the nearest shopping area and bought my husband a fancy summer hat. When I presented it to him after dinner, he had not remembered what day it was. Not likely we will get a nice cottage trip, I love the use of all that driftwood. Such a charming place to celebrate.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this delightful experience! Except for the initial inconvenient rain it looks picture perfect! I enjoyed seeing the simple things that nature provides (driftwood, spider web, deer) that added such charm to your stay. Can't wait to see the inside of your cottage!

Driftwood is so eerily beautiful, isn't it? Congrats on 50 years together!

I love how they incorporated all the the driftwood into the construction. It looks like a relaxing place to stay, and the fog made it look even more romantic and cozy. - Margy
