Vacation - part 5 - Fidalgo Bay Resort

We were so happy to have a shower, a bed and a kitchen - and a living room with table and chairs, after the primitive cabin at the state park - we unpacked everything and were then set to enjoy our two and  a half days in the cabin.  There is a large RV resort behind the cabins - it was very full and as we sat on the deck we got waves and hellos from many people taking walks, riding bikes, walking their dogs - a very peaceful place to vacation.

On the way into the cabin we saw this boat being moved from storage to the boat ramp - I had no idea they had boat moving machines.

We were right across the street from the bay - so when the tides went in and out we watched (and photographed) the herons feeding.

Landing

Another landing - they take a long time to settle those large wings

Can you do this with your neck?

Walking in the shallows - looking for a fish

So many herons.  I had my tripod set up on the deck

This heron picked up something from the bay - a clam or a mussel I suppose

Swallowing!

Taking off

And away he goes

One of the buildings at the Resort had bird feeders all along one side - and this mother bird was feeding her baby.  Baby seems to have gotten tired of waiting

Crow mama picked a mussel from the bay - dropped it on the pavement and fed the children

Cedar Waxwings in a tree top - baby asking for food - it seemed to be baby bird time

Canada Geese were feeding in the bay

And what would a post from me be, without a picture of Mt. Baker - this is the side we don't see from Bellingham, this is off the side deck of our cabin.

Sweet Peas grow wild along the road sides and any place they can find a little soil and water

A Yucca blooming just below our deck

And of course blackberry bushes everywhere.  The berries should be ripe sometime in August

And an eagle in a tree top

He was perched over the bay - look how his constant perching has bent that tree top over.  Often when I am looking for a Bald Eagle I will search for a flattened tree top or a bent over top.

Tomorrow - taking walks - and wait until you see what we discovered!!!

Beautiful sights of the birds and flowers on your vacation, JoAnn! Seeing the herons with their wings outstretched is amazing and all the mother birds feeding their young are great photos. I love the little birdhouse with the baby that looks bigger than momma. Gorgeous shot of Mt. Baker, too! I love the tip about seeing the bent over trees and looking for eagles. Such a lovely place to take a vacation. Oh, and I did turn my neck that way when I was raising my 4! I know you must have, too! Eyes in the back of my head! xo

This is my first visit, JoAnn and I was surprised to find that you are from Bellingham. I have a dear friend who lives in Bellingham and I have visited your lovely town. My friend is also a quilter, so I would be surprised if you didn't know her. Your posts are beautiful and I honor your respect for all living things and green living. It is my pleasure to have found you.

What a great place for bird photography!! Love all the heron shots, really like the one with the full-wingspan as he glides away. Super shots of the Bald Eagle. That's one bird I've not yet photographed.

I'm visiting your page via 'NF Winged'.
