Barns

Some barns are in sad shape - their time is ending - they have lived a good life and served well.

The blackberries and elderberries begin to take over
As the barns slide back to the earth

But some barns are rescued
From August 2013 - this barn was old and creaky - covered in ivy - and for sale
There were two farm houses on the same rundown property - it was sold in late 2014
The ivy taking over the whole barn
And then a few weeks ago we passed by again - the new owners have stripped back the old siding
And are beginning a restoration.  We'll be back soon to watch the progress.

I think I forgot to post my comment---maybe I did while I was being absent minded---so if it is there you don't have to put your approval on this.

I like your images and be sure to keep us up to date on the restoration.
Thanks

How nice that a perfect match was found for that property! It's going to be exciting to see it re-emerge! The first picture is just so sad....that style of barn just isn't built anymore.

I love old barns and like to take pics when I can. You just never know how long they will last! Enjoy your afternoon my friend! I went to the park but it was 96 degrees so I didn't last long. Took a walked a couple of loops and took a few pics and came back home! TOO HOT! Sending you some sunny hugs, Diane

There was a barn near where I live that looked a lot like the one falling apart in your photos. It was there for years, and one day I drove past it, and it was completely gone like it had never existed. There wasn't a trace of it.

JoAnn, I saw several like these this weekend. It's always nice to see a barn being given new life. Thanks for sharing and please stop back soon.

That is some pretty thick ivy! I don't envy anyone that job of taking it down. But it will look very nice - looking forward to seeing the progress.

In our area, I think more are left to wreck and ruin than restored. Ours need a new roof for sure but it is just too expensive when we do not farm. We keep it up as best we can, but I feel badly that we cannot do more. The building on our property are 110 years old so it is a continual battle keeping up with the repairs that come with age. It is so nice the last barn you posted is being restored. It will be so nice when it is finished. genie

What a glorious barn. I wonder who the lucky owners are. I can't wait to see more of your photos of this amazing building, JoAnn.
