Fairy Cottage

We've driven past this cottage many times - finally one day they were having a yard sale - and that was my chance to get photos.
We talked with the young man and his wife - they had just bought this house and a big "regular" house  on the same property.  He told us that the previous owners had built this cottage as a playhouse for their kids.

You'd expect this size and style of a playhouse to be on an estate with servants and all that - but it was built on a farm in the country - the main house is quite ordinary in size and design.  At the time this playhouse was built farmers in this area did not make much money.  I think the farmer must have loved to build and made this for his children for fun.

It is a full size cottage - full size doors and windows.  Wouldn't it be fabulous to have such a big house for a play house. He told us it was two stories and two bedrooms - that is quite an amazing playhouse.

The roof is swoopy and swirly - and looks like a thatched roof from a dstance

The kitchen door is a Dutch Door

The stone entrance to the main part of the house

Wouldn't you love to have a playhouse like this - you would never outgrow it - and the fairies could come for a tea party.

Oh wow, that would be a cool playhouse. I love the stonework, roof and the cute door. Wonderful photos! Have a happy Monday and new week ahead!

I don't think I shall ever have enough money to build a playhouse like that! Their children must have had lots of fun in the cottage though.

Goodness me, what an amazing 'play house' - must have been a very affluent family! Wonder where those kids are now - how could they ever be satisfied with an ordinary shed-type garden structure after growing up with that fantastic fairytale type cottage to play in.

Love it - perhaps it could be rented out as a tea room - I'll bring my fairy teapot and tiny cupcakes, ha ha!

Oh my goodness! Absolutely magical! This was a true labor of love! I'm glad you finally got to see the cottage close up for pictures to share - and hear the story behind it. Delightful!

Very cool! The last place I saw roofs like that was in Tintagel, Cornwall.

When I was a kid, our playhouse was an abandoned chicken coop in a neighbour's yard. At least someone had cleaned the chicken shit out of it, LOL!

Wouldn't it be fun to fix up a fairy cottage with all kinds of pretty things as a little get away? I just love all of the angles of that roof! What a neat places. My Daddy built us a little playhouse when I was a kid and it's fun to remember back on it. Sweet hugs, Diane

I would love to live there...my kind of quirky house....the roof really sold me as whoever built this was truly gifted to be able to build that roof.

The lucky children that got to play in there...what a whimsical cottage. I think it would make a great guest house or granny flat and fairies would definitely want to come for tea. :-)
Thanks for linking to Mosaic Monday JoAnn.

Now that is a play house. I would love to see the inside. Does the couple live in it? I've stopped at garage sale, estate sales, and open houses just to see the house. Aren't I bad? But I usually end up buying something anyway, so I don't feel so guilty.

My brother built a "hut" but it wasn't that fancy. I don't think my folks were too happy with is but we played in it a long time. Those were pretty lucky kids.

This is truly amazing! I'm so glad you learned a bit of it's history and had a chance to take pictures of it. It looks like it could use a little TLC but I think that's also part of its charm. I can picture tea parties (with some of your wonderful china) here.

I never had a playhouse as a kid but my best friend had one. We loved to go out there to make believe we were living there. That roof must have been hard to build with all the curves. And I love the river rock wall. - Margy

Wow! I want one of those. My inner child wants to play in this play house! What fun it would be to fix up this playhouse with cottage style chippy white furniture with lacy curtains and other fancy stuff.
