Afternoon at the Ponds

The ponds near our house have Canada Geese that overwinter - and in the spring it is time for babies.
The goslings have hatched and swim along with the parents

And several Mallard families nest in the same area
Something upset Mother Goose -  off to the water with the babies close behind
This is what upset them.  A coyote?  Whatever it is - it is not in good health.  I did a lot of research and the options are a cross between a fox and coyote, a very young coyote, a cross between a dog and a coyote, or a  young coyote with the worst case of mange ever.  Poor critter.
Go away - whoever you are!!

Oh dear! That poor 'whatever it is' is starved. Love all the images of the Geese and Mallard with their young.

Beautiful babies, but that poor creature! It does look in a bad way.

What beautiful pictures! The coyote does not look in a good state. I guess if he is desperate for food he is even more of a danger to the geese. Well captured.

The duck and geese families are so cute. I love the adorable ducklings and goslings. The coyote does look sick, very sad. Wonderful critter post. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!

Hi Joann. Love the final photo. It's so typical of the Canada.
Our 4yr old grandson told me they could hear a cow-ote in the woods :)

What precious little babies! Oh their mom has got an eye on that unwanted and ugly guest! Poor thing, does look like he's had better days.

Have a great Saturday up your way!

Wonderful goslings! Love your photos! I was stunned by the picture of the "critter"...so unusual! There was a coyote-fox hybrid on the ranch in Texas when we lived there, and it was relatively small and had a very bushy tail because of the mix with the fox. I don't think we are looking at any fox blood here...maybe some kind of dog intermix. Like I said, very unusual!

Nice post - love those little "goslings". And whatever that poor critter is, it sure doesn't look very healthy.

Those goslings are so cute. I know the geese on our pond have babies but they haven't made an appearance yet.

Aren't baby geese and ducks the sweetest? I guess that's a coyote but he sure looks rough! Hope he stays away from the cute babies. Enjoy your weekend my friend. I hope it's nice there and you can get out some. Sweet hugs, Diane

PRECIOUS babies. Hope that ma and pa protect 'em from that creature.

Looks like the legendary Chubacabra!!! -don't know if that is spelled correctly.

The baby birds are just precious and well protected by their parents. People could learn from animals sometimes!

Hello Joann, I'm coming over through Diane's blog. I was browsing through some of your posts, and you have so many wonderful pictures on here. I've always wanted to visit Canada. I really liked this post in particular because of the Canadian geese. I see them at my lake sometimes, and they are very lovely birds, and have such a LOUD honk. I've never seen their babies though. Me and my daughters also have a blog, and we would love it if you would visit us and follow. I would certainly come back and follow you as well.

It's nice to meet new friends from all over the world. I hope to hear from you, and have a sweet day.
