Swans in a Pond

Just off Fir Island Road - in Conway, WA we found a seasonal pond - full of Trumpeter Swans.  Several cars had stopped to take photos - there were cameras of all sizes - from i-pads to cell phones to cameras with lenses over 2 feet long.

There must have been something good in the mud at the bottom - they were busy digging about with their beaks to find whatever it was they were eating
And floating gracefully on the water
Dig,dig, munch munch - floating . .  .
Or standing.
Exercising their wings now and then

Gliding
Posing

Over there?
Small groups

Looking
Their faces would get awfully dirty
We came back on that same road several hours later and the swans were still there - and people were still taking photos of them - it was a glorious swan day!

Dirty muddy swans. One doesn't expect to see them like this. We have bunches of photos there too. One day we will run in to each other--literally! LOL

The mud does seem to mess up the feathers! I suppose there must be a long period of cleaning after feeding here!

Such beautiful birds! It looks like some of them have gotten a little dirty in the mud. My book says they forage on plant material such as leftover grain or potatoes in a field.

If you could line up those neck shots, I'll bet you could get a heart. Then you could name it "I love mud".

Such a gorgeous big flock of swans. We had 2 flying over the garden yesterday. I love to get out and photograph them.

Wow that's a lot of swans. I've never seen that many in one place. I was just asking my husband what it would take to get some swans on our lake. They're so graceful and pretty
