Ahhh Lilacs

From a past year - anticipating the lilacs that will bloom this year

There is nothing in the spring like lilacs -  blooming - all over town - and the scent is heavenly.
There are so many colors of lilacs - and all are sweet smelling
Sparkling White
Softest, palest lavender - almost with a blue tint
Mounds of pale lilac
Just opening

In full bloom - medium lilac

Can yo have a medium two?  Between medium and dark.  There are so many colors
Almost every yard has at least one bush - maybe two or three

And dark - next to a Pink Dogwood
The darkest of purples

My friend's lilac - sweet scented and bi-colored
A bouquet of bi-colored lilacs

Oh, you are ahead of us! Lilacs are just budding out here - another week of warm weather will have them fragrant and lush. I do love lilacs. Your photos are gorgeous.

Lilacs are one of my favorite flowers!! Such a beautiful scent!! I have several shrubs, all light/medium pinkish lilac colored. I'd love to have a yellow one someday.

Wow, that bi-color is amazing. Lilacs don't do so well here. Maybe the soil is too acid or other conditions aren't good. (roses seem to have trouble except planted in special gardens) I do recall those from my Ohio past.

I adore lilacs and their fragrance. We grew them in my childhood garden in England, they were prevalent in gardens when I lived in New England, but we have little success with them here in the south, due to the Summer heat and not usually very cold Winters. Now here we are after several days in the eighties, tonight it's dropping down to freezing - our plants are at risk sadly.

Mother Nature why do you tease us so?

Lovely pics JoAnn, I can just about sniff the perfume through my screen!

P.S. Loveliest lilacs I've ever seen were on Mackinac Island, MI - home of the Lilac Festival in June, and the beautiful Grand Hotel where they filmed Somewhere In Time!

I love the dark ones, and I don't know if I've seen bicolors. Gorgeous! The only thing "wrong" with lilacs is that their blooms are gone so fast. You've got to catch 'em while you can!
