Random 5 Friday - and some flowers and birds

Time again for five random things - hmmmm  - what shall they be?

1. It has been rainy most of this spring - and this week the weather forecaster predicted clear and sunny all week - guess what it is doing today  -  raining - buckets and gallons and sloshing rain.  I spent a good amount of time yesterday morning finishing up potting up the rest of my summer flowers, arranging things on the deck and cleaning up. Good thing.

This  is my new hanging planter (4.00 at a yard sale) - I've planted pink geraniums in the top and bottom - and white geranium in the middle.  Soon they will be overflowing and gorgeous.

2.  I love to make gingersnaps.  I roll the balls of dough in fine sugar before baking them - they taste so good - so why don't I make them more often?  I don't know.

My new  mini pink carnations (dianthus).  The have the most incredible scent - I have two pots of them

A pink daisy-like flower - I don't know its name - maybe it should be named Betty, that's a good name.

A busy bee is visiting Betty - nice bee-hind.

3.Our deck is decorated like a dock - we even have an anchor - but I have no pictures of the anchor - yet.
Now I need a small skiff to put in the yard and tie to the deck - wouldn't the grandsons love that?

My new Hen and Chicks - in big Abalone Shells, can't wait to see some chicks growing in there

4.  I've never grown Hen and Chicks succulents before - my friend  Franni got me interested - and now
I have 5 Abalone Shell of them planted.

The flicker came back -he was in the shadows so is a little harder to see

Notice that he is sitting on his rump - not standing on his feet.  You can also see the heart shaped dark feathers on his chest.

5.  I will take 500 pictures if a bird will stay long enough, 400 if I find a scene I like, different zoom and different views of it.
Are you surprised that I spent a lot of time editing, cropping and filing photos?

  4. Beautiful photos of your flowers and deck! Love your abalone shell planters and your new plant stand! I really like your 'Betty' daisies, too! I think that gingersnaps are my very favorite cookie, but the Mr. doesn't like them, so I don't bake them because I would eat them all. Love the Flicker sitting on his behind! So cute! xo

  10. What an inviting place to enjoy a cup of iced tea. Your garden friends are delightful too as I've never seen a bird like that here before but the bee is indeed a welcome visitor I love to see in the garden.

    Have a good day,
    Karla

  11. I do the same thing as #5. I've only seen one flicker, but he got me intereseted in backyard birding. Love those pink flowers and Bee-hind. LOL That is a great planter you found. My mom had an old oil pan off an old car filled with hens and chickens for as long as I can remember. I was thinking to start some in a terra cotta planter I found in the attic (had forgotten about it).

  12. Gorgeous flowers! I love all the pink! Especially pink geraniums! Exquisite.

I'm glad Flicker came back. He needs a name too. Maybe Claude.. after Claude Monet? Just a thought. :)

And YES! For sure your grandsons would love a skiff in your backyard. What adventures they would have!
