Vintage Motorhome

When stopping to buy strawberries earlier this spring we saw this vintage motorhome parked at a restaurant nearby.
It is a 1966 Corvair Ultra Van - built by a tinkerer who wanted to have a place to stay when he traveled - it took him four years to perfect it and then others wanted one - so he began production.
It has a Corvair engine, which is air cooled so it was touted as being able to travel in summer or winter because there was no radiator full of water to worry about - well, we all know how successful that idea was.
There are now Ultra Van motoring clubs that travel together - though this one seemed to be on a solo journey.  When restored, these early motorhomes go for up to 35,000.00.

Happy travels!!

  5. That's a first for me JoAnn, never seen one of these that I can recall.
I'm definitely not a camper in a tent kind of person, mainly because of biting bugs and being scared of snakes, however I really nice RV might entice me to take to the road! It really is the best way to see everything along the way.

    Happy week dear - Mary

  6. It must be fun to just park any old place and fall asleep! I wonder how you'd function if you chose to permanently live in one of these. There are days I would gladly do that! But how would you get your mail? And would you have to pay income tax? They'd never find you!
