After all the gorgeous photos of the tulip fields - I thought I'd show you how the fields look once the tulip flowers are picked off.
We drove past a few of the fields last weekend - and they certainly looked different.
In full bloom
After the flower heads are picked off so the bulbs can spend their energy growing bigger
It has a beauty of its own - the petals dropped between the rows
Goodbye tulips - it has been a very good year
Thanks for sharing these beautiful photo. I wonder if something else is planted in those fields during the summer months. maybe grains?
ReplyDeleteThere's always a flip side to everything!
ReplyDeleteThe tulips still look very pretty to me.It is so colorful! Lovely images.

It does seem rather sad, but I'm so glad you got to see them in full view. Enjoy your day sweet friend. It's hot and sunny here and I'm having a coffee break. Want some? HUGS!!!!

I know the fields are for the bulbs, but the blooms are so pretty. Such a shame to get them off in their full glory. I thought Rubbish Tuesday disappeared. I see it's back. - Margy
ReplyDeleteThe color is so vibrant in the little lines between the bulbs. It seems like such a waste, but I'm sure it's going to be even better next year.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tulip fields. It's sad to think of the flowers being discarded when at the height of their beauty, but the rows of petals are lovely, too.
ReplyDelete. . . . . . to everything there is a season. We saw their first beauty and now we know there will be healthy bulbs for yet another year.
ReplyDeleteMary -
Fascinating! I never realized the fields were growing bulbs; I thought it was for cut flowers.
ReplyDeleteNice shots. It may be pretty in its own way but it's still sad to see. And so early! The Tulip Festival is typically the whole month of April, isn't it?!
ReplyDeleteReally stunning!
ReplyDeleteStunning is right! They're beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful photographs, and such an interesting practice. I never would have known--
ReplyDeleteJoAnn, Stunning, beautiful, amazing are truly the words to describe the pictures of the tulips as they lie brutalized in the trenches (maybe brutalized is a bit too dramatic?) between the rows of the still green leaves of the tulip plants. It is fascinating to see how commercially grown bulbs are cultivated to achieve the best quality of bulbs to sell (and to plant) for the next generation of tulip plants.... Have a wonderful day.....
