The lenticular cloud over Mt. Baker is a sign of turbulence - thank you for that info Margy - and they are avoided by pilots - but to those of us on the ground they are a great chance for some fantastic photos. Because the weather is turbulent when the clouds are visible, the shape and size of the lenticular clouds change constantly.
Thanks for the recognition and link. I think they are beautiful as well, from a distance. - Margy
ReplyDeleteLenticular clouds are beautiful indeed. Love these views of Mt. Baker. We haven't seen the mountain for a few days - it's pouring rain tonight.
ReplyDeleteWonderful and stunning photos.

ReplyDeleteVery attractive those lenticular clouds! I love what I learn blogging. ;)
ReplyDeleteJoAnn, I love Mt. Baker, it's always my favorite view when visiting your beautiful Pacific Northwest area - and one can get so many clear shots from different locations. These with the clouds are lovely - I haven't visited at this time of year ever - thanks so much for sharing them.

This is new info for me! I had no idea about these clouds - and probably wouldn't have paid attention to them if not for your striking pictures!
ReplyDeleteThose clouds do make for a very dramatic sky, JoAnn. I can see why you (and others) would be prompted to head out with a camera to photograph them against the blue sky and mountain. Beautiful.

Gorgeous scenery to photograph and I learned about lenticular clouds as well, had not heard of them before.
ReplyDeleteThank you for linking to Mosaic Monday JoAnn.
Cloud watching is such fun. Your photos are great, too. Your turbulence tends to bring storms our way (Colorado).
ReplyDeleteThis is so interesting to see the changes in the lenticular cloud, which I'd never heard of before either! :) Beautiful photos and mosaics. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteWe've had a couple of those hovering over our Mt. Rainier to the north as well this winter. Beautiful shots!
ReplyDeleteHi JoAnn, I think I saw those lenticular clouds here the other day! And we definitely saw Mt Baker bathed in the sunset while out in the country. That's such a beautiful mountain viewed from here in BC. It's been ages since I skied it. Maybe it's time for another trip down. :D
ReplyDeleteI love learning something new...wonderful clouds!
ReplyDeleteAmacing mountains an clouds! Lovely photos to.
ReplyDeleteMount Baker is one of my favourite subjects when I visit my hometown but you are giving me a whole new perspective. Thanks for your photos,
