Belted Kingfisher - on Orcas Island


Kingfishers rarely sit for more than just a moment - this one stayed for about 10 minutes

  4. There are photographers here in Tokyo who specialize in Kingfisher photography ... even going to building blinds and luring them with small bait fish. Our "common" kingfisher looks like a flying jewel. Nothing common at all!

  7. I love them - have seen very colorful ones in Africa but this belted one is handsome - your know I love neutrals, haha! I wonder if they sing - can't recall hearing them make much sound and, as you say, they are fast moving and really hard to photograph. Great shots JoAnn.
