There are many wild grass meadows in boggy areas - the little canals and channels through the grass make for interesting reflections on a sunny day.
And the cornfields have been harvested but the harvest was so late this year because of autumn rains that they didn't get the fields plowed. Water often collects in the fields - great for more reflections.
A little farther on we came across Trumpeter Swans, mucking about in the puddles in the fields. This is quite a ways north of where we usually see them each winter - a surprise for sure.
And in the next field - a few more Swans - the gray one looks to be a juvenile - though it is much darker than most juvenile Trumpeters. I took so many pictures of them and wanted you to see them all - so I made a video of all the photos - enjoy.
Nice shots!! I can understand why the birds are there. Plenty of food for sure.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you turned a greyish day into a wonderland through your pictures. You have some great shots here; the reflections are gorgeous. (By the way, JoAnn: what kind of camera do you use? Your zoom shots get in so well!)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. Blessings, Martha
ReplyDeleteWe saw the swans when we drove through in December - what a thrill it is to see them!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the swans. I like the reflections in the channels too.
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos. We have the trumpeters in the field too. This is the first time I have seen them this late in the season, they are beauties all of them, and loud!
ReplyDeleteThe road less travelled - always a good way to go:) Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures JoAnn - how do they ever get corn grown on these fields when they are as wet as this in winter?
ReplyDeleteSuch still waters to get amazing reflections. Sometimes to go off the beaten track has such great rewards. x
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos - I love the dry stalks reflected in the water! It looks so peaceful and quiet - a beautiful back road. xo Karen
