These ducks were alongside the road, in a field that was flooded from recent rains. These puddles/ponds don't last long, the water soaks into the ground quickly and dry land emerges.
The new sprouts of grass partially hide the ducks
This was a fairly large pond of water - with lots of ducks
The reflection of their wake caught what little sunshine we had that day
These are Ring-Necked Ducks - if you look closely you can see a brown ring on their lower neck.
Splash !
I love their blue, white and black tipped beaks
I love the way the sunlight catches the ripples in their wakes!!!
ReplyDeleteDucks are great. You got some terrific shots!
ReplyDeleteThese look so peaceful, but I've lived with ducks around the lake. You know they think that my patio is their toilet! Yikes! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday, JoAnn.
Don't know if I've ever seen this type of duck.
ReplyDeleteCrispy
Nice photo's, love watching ducks, ducing and diving.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are wonderful...Happy Blue Monday
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. I have not seen a ringed neck duck. We have a island in our pond and every year a mallard and drake come and have their babies there. I have named it duck island. I love when the babies are born and have their first swim around in the pond.
ReplyDeleteThat top one with the green reeds is smashing♥ My NF: http://lore-eleven.blogspot.com/2013/04/barn-light.html
ReplyDeleteI love how the grass looks in some of the photos...almost surreal!
ReplyDeletelove the pics and just a bit of color of blue so pretty
ReplyDeletecome see what I shared at http://shopannies.blogspot.com
Thanks for identifying these! We've had lots of ducks flying around here lately and for several days last week had a flock come through our back yard each evening, pecking away at whatever they could find. I counted 20 one night. Mallards. Yours seem much more exotic!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - I hope some ducklings will follow?
ReplyDeleteJust like here in the UK JoAnn - a puddle of water in a field attracts ducks straight away. Lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteA great series of photos and you have captured light and reflections beautifully!
ReplyDeleteGood shots.
ReplyDeleteThey're so pretty!!!! I love the marking just above the bill in contrast to the color of the bill. And they're eyes. Too bad the pond has to dry up all too quickly.
ReplyDeleteBAD 'Hair' DAY
Ducks always seem to move away when I try for photos.
ReplyDeleteThe ducks are probably migrating so they will be gone before the ponds disappear ... but, oh how wonderful that you were able to see them and take pictures ... very nice pictures of them. This is a new duck for me and I, too, love the blue white and black tipped beaks ... I assume those a mating colors at this time of year. Great shots and lovely post ...
