Birds at Pdailla Bay

We often visit Padilla Bay - and Bay View State Park.  There is always something interesting there.  Before we got to the park I spotted this heron in the field nearby.

My camera zooms to 140x - so I was able to bring the heron closer.

Ruffling his feathers .  .  .

I don't often catch them flying - he is about to land .  .  .

Stretching his wing after landing .  .  .

And overhead, a raven flying by .  .  .

And of course a lovely seagull sitting on the fence by the bay.
You can see the fairies dancing on the water behind the seagull.

Sunset Over Bellingham Bay

While having a car picnic (it was 53 degrees and windy) and watching the cars load onto the Alaska Ferry, the sunset began.  This is looking north towards Canada, though tonight you could not see the mountains.  All we could see was this glorious pink cloud.

As the sun began to set we rushed over to Marine Park - just around the corner from the ferry terminal - and got a few shots before the sunset was gone.  It was a gloriously golden sunset - and fabulous way to end a wonderful day!

A Flicker Visits

A lovely visitor to the suet feeder yesterday.   You can see bits of suet on his beak.  These were taken through the window in my studio.

Early Morning In The Cemetry

An early morning drive through the large local cemetery was delightful.  I noticed on the way into town that there was a low fog along the ground in the cemetery. It was a quick trip to town and I hoped that it would still be there when I returned.  Driving through the cemetery, with the sun coming up, leaves still dripping from the rains last night and squirrels everywhere was fabulous.  I didn't see any souls roaming about, this time, but the views were still spectacular.

There was a little of the fog left .  .  .

One of the many squirrels I saw - they were busy gathering the acorns for winter .  .  .

I looked up - and saw the most amazing clouds - like someone had swiped across them with a dishrag.

Near our house the sun was shining through the leaves of the Big Leaf Maples

Stunning in the early sunlight . . .

And this is the view right across the street from our house - out the studio window

These are Big Leaf Maples - some of the leaves are as big across as a dinner plate.  .  .

A wonderful early morning - how was your morning?

Weekly Top Shot - #52

The moon was a lucky shot - I was focusing on the hawk and didn't even see the moon.

I am joining Madge at  her one year anniversary of the Weekly Top Shot.  Great photos there - stop over and see them.

Shorebird - Weekly Top Shot

Aw we were watching this shorebird searching in Birch Bay for food, I caught the droplets from her beak - such a lovely autumn day today.  A great day for bird photos.

Hummingbirds

As I was sitting at my desk I looked up when a movement caught my eye - I reached for my camera - there was the little hummingbird again. This time I got some good shots of him. He was very busy flitting about.
