Two New-To-Me Birds

Today was exciting at our feeder.
Besides the wonderful regulars of Red Breasted Nuthatches, two kinds of Chickadees and Juncos, a new visitor was a Black Headed Grosbeak, a new bird for my list.
He came back often and posed for me.  These shots are taken from my living room chair, which is across the room from the feeder, and the feeder is out on the lawn, with the deck in between the feeder and the house.  I have the planters arranged on the railings so I can see the feeder tree from my chair - that way I don't frighten the birds by getting up to stand by the window when they land on the feeder.

They can sure get in the strangest poses while trying to find the best tidbits in the feeder.

He was back many times during the day
The female came too - but not as often

And some other birds we saw on a recent drive through the country.  The middle one is a Savannah Sparrow, a new one for me.  I've seen roosters and turkeys before.

Hello, JoAnn, congrats on your lifer and new yard bird. The Black-headed Grosbeak is a beautiful. The male is a beauty but I love the female too. I would love to see them in person some day. I have my feeder set up where I can see them easily from the windows. Your Savannah Sparrow is cute, love the rooster and turkey. Great sightings and photos. Thank you so much for linking up and sharing your post. I appreciate your comment and visit. Happy Saturday, enjoy your day and weekend!

How exciting! A good-looking bird too. We see his cousins here--the rose-breasted and the evening grosbeaks, but your visitor must be a west coaster. Great photos, Jo Ann!

They sure have pretty coloration! I'm happy for you too. It's fun to see something new! Enjoy your weekend! Hugs!

You're right - that Grosbeak is quite a flexible fellow to contort into all those positions! The Savannah Sparrow is aptly named - very fashionable!!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

I have a window cafe. Great for seeing birds but not for taking pictures. You must keep your camera right by your chair.

The grosbeaks are beautiful. We caught a glimpse of a pair of birds we didn't know just this morning. One had a red breast. They flew off too quickly to identify them. Now I'll keep my eye out for them again.

You got some very good shots for being at that sort of distance. I like the nice detail of seeing the yellow on the male's underbelly. And the female looks softly colored and pretty. What nice visitors you have!

JoAnn, you take the best photos. Even sitting in your chair, far away, and they look like they are in the room with you. Pretty little birds. We don't have any that have those many pretty colors. Just the tiny wild canary, which is what I call them.?? I am not very savvy in bird speak!..Are you having good weather now? We had rain one day but nice again..Thanks for your visit. We are really enjoying the porch even though we have had to wear a coat for at least one day..Happy Weekend, my friend..xxoJudy
