Pintail Ducks

Another of our plentiful overwintering ducks are the Pintails.  I love their little cheeping whistle - and the beauty of their feathers.
Such striking feather designs - and their wonderful  blue beaks!
 They often flock with Mallards

A nap by the bay shows off their feathers

It is great to see that they are plentiful too. Wonderful series of photos. Thank you for linking and sharing your post. I also appreciate your visit and comment. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

  7. We get a lot of pintails here each winter but never so many in one place. I take the scouts to a big city pond because they need to identify 12 animals in the wild and I can guarantee they will meet the goal. (no squirrels, or rabbits or the like in Tokyo) I have made up a laminated ID sheet with colored pictures and points to look for and they can check them off. Pintails are good because male and female are different so that counts for two.

  8. Very handsome looking ducks. I watched some of the mallards yesterday, since too cold to hang around for long. I like some of your collages of the birds.

  10. Hey JoAnn...
You have captured the Pintails so beautifully . I certainly do miss their presence ... I used to live in BC where the bird community was astounding .. so your fabulous photos did bring back fond memories... You must live close to a bird habitat or near a wetland... I enjoy your post so much Thanks for sharing and for the Birdy visit...Hugs

  13. JoAnn - the colors on the pintail are so intricate, I keep thinking it must be a painting. Well, God is an incredible artist! I like how you included close-ups and distant shots, so we can get an idea of how many there are. Awesome!

  16. Pintails are wonderful ducks - I love how the shape of the line on their necks seems to mirror the shape of the pin!

We dont get them here, so I only ever see them I=if I get to travel.

  17. They're so beautiful! You've reminded me that I get lazy about looking at the ducks that come here for winter. We get so many mallards I forget there may be others mixed in.

  18. I've never seen Pintail ducks in real life so their wonderful monochrome plumage and the startling blue beaks were a lovely surprise. Thank you for bringing them over to MM this week.
