It is the beginning of hydrangea season in NW Washington State. They grow well - and big - here and many homes and gardens feature wonderful displays.
There are several varieties - this is the Angel Wing Hydrangea - a gift from our daughter's family. Do you see the "wings" on the outer edge of the bloom? I love the light and medium colors of the flowers. They start out green and slowly turn to this lovely pink
These cone-shaped hydrangeas are gaining popularity - and I can see why- the huge blossoms are spectacular.
And the Lace Cap Hydrangea - with a halo of larger outer flowers.
Big displays in yards - notice the hedges of Hydrangeas in the background also.
I love their big moppy heads
A delicate blue Angel Wing
Lace Cap in blue
Lovely purple
This was the first cone shaped one I ever saw - it was in the garden of a new friend in Bow, Washington.
Different colors on the same bush
Parks and public spaces often plant hydrangeas
Wonderful Joanne, so glad you shared with Maggie and Normandy Life.

Such a glorious collection, hydrangeas of many shapes and shades.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful start to Mosaic Monday again this week.
Merci Beaucoup!
...gorgeous, hydrangeas are just budding here.
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of these gorgeous flowers (in so many varieties, some that I never heard or seen before) is such a delight for eyes ... and right in time to start a new week so lovely!! :) I like all of them; incredible various forms of petals, nice delicate colors and you have a large collection of aspects captured! Wonderful collages and pictures!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for the beauty shared!
A great new week ahead! Alexa
Very beautiful and colourful.
ReplyDeleteHello, gorgeous blooms. The various colors are lovely. They do look like they grow well there. Lovely collection of images. Happy Monday, enjoy your day and new week!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm holding back my tears looking at all this hydrangea beauty - amazing! We have hardly a bloom on ours this year as the unusual severe-3-day freeze in March killed all the newly formed buds on all our bushes - and of course the neighbors - oh how I miss my blue mopheads, always my favorite garden flowers, and of course there will be none to dry for winter decor.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these lovely photos JoAnn - our area is just about devoid of these beauties this summer - but there's always next year, hopefully!
Happy week - know you will be out and about enjoying each special day.
Hugs - Mary
Wow Wow Wow! Stunning. Easy to see why hydrangeas are so loved. I understand I could grow the oak leaf hydrangea here. I would try, but I don't have a spot!!!! Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteJoAnn, I so enjoyed your photos of hydrangeas. I love them and most I see them at the Conservatory. The ones outdoors here up north are not colorful. Thanks for sharing. Have a great week. Sylvia D.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! They sure so grow BIG and BEAUTIFUL there! I would say the lavender are my favs...but I like the blues even better. Hydrangeas are my favorite flowers! Have a wonderful week with your family. I know you will! Send me a photo of all of you together! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful collection of hydrangeas. Yours are way ahead of mine for sure. Love that angel variety. I might need to find one of those.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, I would love to live in your area...hydrangeas are my favorite flower...and the area I live in is really way too hot for them. How wonderful to have a hedge of hydrangeas!
ReplyDeleteI just bought 2 gorgeous pink ones to go with the blue one I have had for several years. I have to plant them on the north side of the house or they would never make it, of course, that is the side without a door! So far they are doing pretty seeing the temps are up in the 90°s this week.
Thank you for sharing, JoAnn...and have a nice week.
These are just absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful hydrangeas, JoAnn. They are one of my favourite summer flowers. I love the mopheads in blue best and have several bushes of them in the garden. However, yours are flowering much ahead of mine.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers look so delicate. - Margy
ReplyDeleteHow spectacular - you have been truly blessed with an impressive show this year. I can see why they'd be your favourite flower!
