There is a pair or two of Northern Shovelers that pass through the strip pits every year...at least I asuume they pass through cause usually only see them in the spring or fall.

Shovellers are one of my favourite ducks - I always think that they look like battleships! Sitting low in the water with that huge beak - I really like them. We have a similar species of shoveller here, but not the Northern one.
