The original forecast for today - while cold - was not for snow. We had a bit of snow on Friday - enough to keep Don home from work - and to keep us from going anyplace on Saturday - but by Sunday it was all melted. We woke this morning (Monday) to about a scant inch of snow - and then it happened.
Big fat puffy flakes - thick and fast - and the snow began to build up quickly
The branches of the bare trees decorated with snow
Oso Berry bush beside the dining room window
Snow on the bird feeders - building higher after just half an hour
The rain gauge filling with snow
Another bird feeder - the birds will need a refill in this cold weather
Poor fuchsias - they froze last week - and now they are covered in snow.
Taken half an hour apart - the snow builds up fast
And more photos taken at the same intervals - only an hour and a half between the top left snowmen and santa photos and the bottom right photo.
It is a magical winter wonderland!
With Don home for the 4th day in a row we enjoyed the christmas lights
Watched the snow
Did a little decorating
Wrapped gifts and listened to Christmas music - before long the roads were clear and now the temperatures are dropping - so the snow will be around for a long while, but with cleared roads life can return to normal.
It was a very good day.
The snow this morning here was a bit of a surprise, too. Unfortunately, schools were open so out I went. I'm still hoping for a snow day, but it might not happen until the new year. Snow days are so cozy. Love the snow piling up on your outdoor figures.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a beautiful winter wonderland...we didn't get any down here and I'm so jealous. Even over the weekend this end of town had rain. Sound like you and Don had a lovely relaxing day. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYour day sounds like heaven. What a beautiful Christmas tree. How lovely to companionably wrap presents and listen to Christmas music with your husband. Your Winter wonderland does indeed look magical!
ReplyDeleteHello, the snow looks pretty. I like all your decorations. I am glad the roads are clear. Stay warm and safe! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteYour winter wonderland is fantastic Jo Ann, I feel sad that you've lost your fuchsias but had to smile at the Snowmen and Santa mosaics.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas from Normandy, hope to see you in the New Year.
...magical sights!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to our sort of winter!
ReplyDeleteYou snowman family is incredible! WOW! Hope you can stay in and bake! Stay warm and safe my friend! Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteWe had so few snow days when we lived in Oregon ... so rare that even after all these years I can actually remember the joy of those unexpected days off ..(.I can almost smell those chocolate cookies baking! )
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos, JoAnn...we had a tiny bit last week, but not enough to cover the ground. It has been COLD since then!
ReplyDeleteI don't have my tree up, yet...maybe this week...I do have some of the other decorating done, though.
Your tree is beautiful.
Have a great week...stay warm and dry!
I've been looking at the same thing since last Sunday! LOTS of snow here - over 12" although it has stopped now for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI love the cozy scene with your tree and the image of you two "elves" bustling about inside, decorating, wrapping, sipping and just enjoying the season!
You got more than we did at the cabin up the lake. We had several dustings but it is all gone now that the rain came behind it. I heard schools and colleges closed because of it. - Margy
ReplyDeleteWow! You got a lot of snow and it's gorgeous! Great shots!
ReplyDeleteWe've had repeated forecasts but aside from a tiny bit that mostly melted a couple of weeks ago we've had nothing. A friend in Port Angeles has had regular snow, as have others at higher altitudes. Tonight it's very cold...22 degrees at 10 o'clock. But no talk of snow again until later this week. And, for us, it may be just that: talk.
I heard my daughter in Oregon was without power for most of a day ... snow on trees above power lines most likely. Areas that don't usually have much snow really have to scramble when it falls in larger amounts. Today for the first time I noticed frost on the grass in the park so most likely winter has arrived.
ReplyDeleteI noticed your seed feeder. How well does that style work during rainy weather. I had to take mine down because the seeds were getting soaked and sprouting, then clogging up the inside. Yours looks like the seed tray may be a little more protected than the one I use. - Margy
