If You Like Purple

This year there is purple vetch growing along many roads in the country.  It is growing in wheat fields among the wheat - climbing up telephone poles - covering fences.

I've never seen so much of it - ever.
It has formed a continuous hedge along a fence outside a wheat field.

It has escaped and is running wild.  Don't stand still for very long or it will overtake you.

Such beauty and a glorious scent.

  2. I love this. Purple is one of my favorites. I guess this is considered an invasive plant. We have some of those in Ky. too. Hate to see it have to be cut away.

  6. The vetch reminds me of lavender. Vetch is much prettier than its name.

  7. It's rather lovely even if it is a bit rampant. We have wild vetches as well but not the same as yours I don't think. The ones in UK aren't scented I don't think but they're certainly invasive if they get into the garden.

  8. So pretty, but it looks like it is about to devour anything in its way! Is it considered a noxious weed in your state?
    Have a great week, JoAnn.

  11. Very pretty, even though I'm sure it's considered a nuisance by the way you described its aggressive traveling! Sometimes I wonder who decided which species were "weeds" and which ones weren't...??!

  12. This is a plant we share with you. We've got lots of it growing across the street from us right now - there's a field of purple around the edge of the marsh. I've never caught a scent from it, though.

  13. We have them growing to the side of our garage and up at the farm. Love them. They survive the heat the cold and the high water.
