Baby It's Cold Outside

Well, it WAS cold outside.  Last week we had many days with temperatures that didn't get above freezing (at our house - in town the temperatures were in the upper 30s and lower 40s) so the frost never melted in our yard.  Each morning it would get frostier and frostier.  When rain was forecast for the next day I decided it was time for photos of the frost - which had grown taller every day.

The crystals are amazing in macro

Well, WOW! Amazing! I felt like I was browsing a science magazine. Your photos are just terrific. I adore the little hedgehogs! Too bad they can't stay permanently cute and perfect!

Frost just makes me want to stay inside and drink hot cocoa, but these pics make me want to go out and take another look at it! Beautiful!

I love your frost hedgehogs! These are great macro shots. I always find frost so interesting - and there certainly was plenty to be had, wasn't there? Our soils were so consistently cold I began to imagine that we had permafrost.
Our weather settled down today. The wind stopped here, too, though we had light rain throughout the day. Rain is much easier to take if it's not blasting along on fierce wind!

Very spectacular!

The ice crystals are something that we seldom see here mostly because we don't get rain this time of the year. Such gorgeous photos of the unusual transformation of normal objects.

The forecast is for some cold weather in a week. We've had a lot of rain and wind though. At this rate our wood will last all winter without having to gather and cut more to restock in January like we usually do. - Margy

Your pictures are fabulous JoAnn, and your collages present them beautifully. We seldom get frost as pretty as this. It either melts or snows before the frost has a chance to accumulate.... Hugs, Candy

My dad was quite a photographer. Many of his photos won prizes and his rose pictures illustrated a book. He often gave slide shows to groups and one of his shows was "The Phases and Faces of Water". He had some astonishing frost pictures that yours bring to mind. Thanks for all that beauty.
