Five Saturday Critters on Friday

This horse is in a field we pass all the time on our rides.  There is no place at all to pull over for a picture - just a very deep ditch for water runoff and almost always there are cars behind us.  Today there were no cars in sight so I got to stop.    She even looked up at me - which is unusual - almost always I get photos of horses eating - and eating - and eating.
This pretty mule is in the same field.
Ooops - this is not a horse - it is a young Golden Eagle.  One way to tell the difference between a young Bald Eagle (which doesn't get it's white head and tail for several years) and a Golden Eagle is the Golden Eagle has a blue beak.  They feed on small mammals and so are often seen on the ground instead of in trees like Bald Eagles

And eating!

  10. Glad you had a chance to stop and get the pictures! I like having my husband drive. I get to gawk at things closely instead of whipping by alone and risking an accident if I stare at something interesting!

  11. I hate those spots that are full of pictures and nowhere to stop! Glad you had time for these. They're nice. That white faced horse in the last shot is really interesting. And I didn't know about the golden eagle's blue beak. Good information! Thanks.

  14. Hi JoAnn! Thanks for the photos and thanks for helping me understand the difference between a young Golden eagle and a young Bold eagle.
I am glad you were able to stop and take these horses' photos. I can imagine the horse thinking:'This time all the conditions are here for this nice lady to take my photo. I better look up and nice. I will eat later.'

    Take care!
