I've done a lot of embroidering this year - just finished up the last set of Day-Of-The-Week dishtowels. I send them to a classmate who runs the gift shop at the Sitka, Alaska hospital gift shop. They have been very popular.
This is the first set I made - these are for me.
Each maiden has a hat and matching trim on her skirt of appliqued fabric
With buttonhole embroidery
Happy little birds have a busy week
Tea time
Kittens on the go
Raggedy Ann - busy all week
Playful puppies
Silly dishes - singing and dancing
Sassie Susie - helpful all week
Mice - hard at work
Turtles having a good time
I did a few sets of just two towels - chickens
Zany dishes
And I had to do a set of teddy bears

Good morning, what a lovely collection of towels and pretty embroidery! They are all so cute! Have a happy day and new week ahead!
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness! You have been busy. I love embroidery. I can see why they are so popular in the gift shop -- your work is gorgeous! Love the tea towels and the funny turtle artist. Your post has brought a smile to my face this morning!
ReplyDeleteWhat charmingly old-fashioned embroidery designs! This is the type of embroidery I remember from my childhood. The type my grandma, my mom and even I did. I still have a pair of white pillowcases with kittens and flowers that I embroidered when I was around 10 or 11. And a bureau runner that my grandma embroidered with flowers.
ReplyDeleteSuch clever work JoAnn.
ReplyDeleteThese bring back such memories, JoAnn!! I remember my first project in embroidery as a kid was to make a set of tea towels and then if Mom deemed them acceptable then I could move on to the pillow case. Well done, Peggy. Mom would say you could start the pillow case next! Wishing you well!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! Aren't they darling!
ReplyDeleteOh my this is quite a collection...it reminds me of my aunts, grandmothers and my husband's grandmother's fine work.
ReplyDeleteOh what fun to visit your post today. My first time to your lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteI used to love to embroider tea towels and pillow cases. Haven't done it in years. You inspire me, and since you provide the link to those old familiar patterns, I might just have to take up the needle and make a project or two for this fall. I have been wanting to do some embroidery -- a favourite pastime.
Enjoyed my visit... thank you!
Brenda
as I scrolled down, I kept thinking, "These are my favorite." "no, these are my favorite." and on and on- If I could choose one set...so adorable!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a few new patterns since I last saw your embroidery JoAnn. I recently gifted one of the tea towels I purchased from you and another is due to go out soon. Originally I wanted them all for myself but decided it would be nice to gift a few them and share your pretty work.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to Mosaic Monday.
What beautiful work! Your stitching is so meticulous! The sunbonnet girls bring me back to grandma's house. I have never seen Raggedy Ann towels or the mice. My first embroidery was a pillow case with a sleeping kitten. These are just "sew" cute!
ReplyDeleteThese are s-o-o-o-o wonderful! I remember seeing sets like these when I was a kid but it's been (ahem) a few years since those days. They're great and it's so nice to see them again!
ReplyDeleteYou have been very busy, and I absolutely love all of these! Soooo adorable. They remind me of some vintage pieces handed down from my grandmother.
ReplyDeleteGreetings! I'm Kelley from Letters Unfolded (dot) com. I JUST LOVE YOUR TOWELS!
ReplyDeleteQuestions, if you don't mind:
1. Do you stitch these onto the "bar mop" cotton towels? Or do you cut and hem and make your own?
2. Would you tell me about the stitch you like to use?
Thanks again,
Kelley~

I love these ! When I was a little girl every fall my mother would have each of us , her daughters , begin to embroider a dish towel she had ironed a pattern on. She would make us finish it in time to give each of our grandparents one for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI especially like the teapot , mouse, and puppy towels. Did you buy the patterns for these ?
They are all so beautiful!!! Who would not love these!!! xx
ReplyDeleteOh my! I am the lucky recipient of that towel Judith mentioned she gifted! I just saw your link on her blog, and I thought, that has to be her!! I love it. Just gorgeous. And like Brenda mentioned, I may just get some of those patterns and do some towels up myself.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I found your blog. These dish towels are wonderful.
Wow! you sure have done a lot...and I love it all!
ReplyDeleteI knew you were making the towels but I had no idea there were so many patterns! I love the maidens with the bonnets the beat and then the tea time set. Very pretty needle work
ReplyDeleteYou do such lovely work, JoAnn. Your teatowels must just fly out of the store in Alaska.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful hand embroidery work!
