I didn't have a post ready for today - then when I was cooking breakfast I saw a movement out the window. And this is what I saw at the neighbor's feeders.
Black Headed Grosbeak female
There were two - they took turn picking seeds.
Not sure what the white layer is on the suet cake - it is definitely not snow
Then a black squirrel came along and frightened the birds away. It looks like he is wearing the feeder as a saddle
This pretty bird was there too - a little more timid than the Grosbeaks. I'm not sure what bird this is. Any help?
And then the bossy Stellar Jay - gorgeous feathers. One of the best shots I've gotten of a Jay
I love their blue "eyebrows"

Wonderful variety of birds. I would love the see the black-headed Grosbeak and the Stellar Jays are cool. The other bird could that be a female Western Tanager? Great shots! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!
Wow to see all this just outside my window would make my morning all the more thrilling. It's been YEARS since I've seen a stellar jay. They're so pretty.
And that squirrel is a downright "Hoot"
It's great you stopped by to share the link this week at I'd Rather B Birdin'. Thanks.
You have a lovely collection of birds in this post as wel as the black Squirrel.
They must have just been waiting for you to photograph them! Wonderful pictures of the Jay! xx
What a wonderful serendipitous moment to look over at the neighbor's yard and catch these great birds and critters! Love the photos!
I think the mystery bird may be a female goldfinch, perhaps? Just a guess.
It looks like you had some real breakfast entertainment!
Could that layer of white in the feeder be some kind of fat?
Hi JoAnn, those critters are beautiful. Those birds are so colourful. My favourite will be the black squirrel. Squirrels always bring a smile on my face.
Good time to have that camera handy. (and you don't even have to leave home)
All great shots. Love the Grosbeaks, they are here in great number---mostly the females. I think maybe a female or juvenile Goldfinch.
BTW: I purchased your book and read it almost immediately. Very interesting---what a great childhood before moving to Sitka.

You have a fine variety of birdies feasting at your restaurant!

Wow that is real serendipity, all those wonderful birds right out your window. ( your windows must be much cleaner than mine! If I I'd that, there'd be a blur showing! )... Great birds and thie squirrel made me laugh! )
I've seen black squirrels up by the hospital. They are so unusual. - Margy
I'm amazed at the clarity of the pictures you get through a window!
The first time I saw a black squirrel was in the woods at a cottage we rented about 45 minutes north of us. They don't live here at all. Just brown ones do, and we have the same struggle with feeding stations that your neighbor does. Ours can't read the sign "Birds fed in front, squirrels in BACK on the deck!"
