Friday Green - Vacation Part 2 And a Couple of Critters

These parts of Don's three weeks of vacation are not in order - this is some green we saw on a ride south of here yesterday.
The hay fields have been cut and are growing and green again

Saturday's Critters    Birds sitting in green trees

A very old house with a green mossy roof and green trees.  When we looked closer we saw a new pickup truck sitting in the driveway and it appears someone is "squatting" in this old house. No one seems to be complaining.  It appears the house has been empty for a very long time.
A farmer picking up bales of hay - between the tractor and the trailer is a "flat" of hay bales
They are lifted into place with hydraulics - not like the old days when the bales were thrown up on the trailer by hand.
And the farmer is off to the barn with the load of hay
The green of potato fields is enhanced with the blossoms - pink blossoms mean red potatoes
The green tractor sits in the potato field

This is how they keep the potatoes green - gigantic rainbird sprinklers that cover massive amounts of the crop in one arc.

Lovely countryside, interesting to see the hay baler with the hydraulic lift - how times have changed. More efficient but less romantic:)

Those are such huge fields of hay and potatoes. Things growing for us to eat and for cows to eat. That's a good thing.

I have to laugh because Nerima-ku, the ward where I live, has been recognized as the greenest in the city of Tokyo. 53 years ago it was farmland but every time I go out, another field is being turned into a huge apartment building. I don;t think they know what "green" is!

Great post, lots of pretty greens. And cute birds. I like the field of blossoms from the red potato. Thank you so much for linking up and sharing your post. Have a happy weekend!

I wondered if the pink blossoms meant red potatoes. Now I know!

Beautiful photos! I've never seen the flat bales of hay before. Must be something fairly new. The potato fields in blossom look so pretty. I don't think I'd even want to 'squat' in that old house. Creepy. lol Have a great day!

Love the view of the potato fields.
And now flats of baled hay - I thought most farms were going for te big round ones now. I guess every area is different.

Green, green, and more green!
Did you notice in the mossy-roofed house that there's an electric fan in the window?
