Summer Scavenger Hunt

We have a list of things to hunt for this summer - it has been fun.  I have another to add today.

19 - Public Garden

Bayview Cemetery has many plantings and garden areas to enjoy.  They encourage the town's people to walk, jog or bike (respectfully) through the gardens and markers.  Sometimes you will see a family picnicking under the trees.  It is a serene and calming place to visit in the summer when the Dogwood Trees are blooming.

  1. Hi JoAnn. As all of your photos always are, these are so beautiful too. There is something about old cemeteries that really speaks to me. It is so nice to see one that is kept so beautifully. We have a few up here that have such beautiful and interesting stone markers but the grounds are horrible. So disrespectful if you ask me..Happy Thursday..Judy

  2. I've heard that in Europe, cemeteries serve as very popular and well-used green spaces and parks. Not in North America! Nice to hear that may be changing a little bit in your area.

  8. I can't think of any cemetery in Japan being used as a park. Not only are the stones so full one can hardly walk, some people are afraid to enter after dark, indeed they will walk 20 minutes around one rather than five minutes to get to the bus stop on the far side.

  12. I love that "in-your-face" shot of the dogwood - beautiful!
How lovely to have people interact with those who make their home at the cemetery. They are our loved ones who enjoy visitors and eavesdropping on what we have to say!

  14. They don't make cemeteries like that any more do they. Now they want everything flat so it's easy to mow. - Margy

  15. Beautiful pictures. There is a woodland burial ground near here that has just one event a day, either a funeral or a wedding!

  21. The dogwoods are beautiful, the collage of them is gorgeous. When I was young and dating we would walk in the cemetery near our house, it was lovely and very peaceful back then. It was an old cemetery (dedicated in 1893) and beautifully attended to.
