  3. They look like fast learners. I remember playing follow-the-leader when I was a kid.

  4. The geese look like they are enjoying a lovely afternoon of playing in the water. We have a lot of Canadian geese in our area of the country. I enjoy watching them but they do leave a mess behind.

  5. Hi JoAnn - at last time to sit back and enjoy your water birds, always such fun. As much as we badmouth Canada geese for their huge numbers and messy behavior, they are always such fun to watch, just like all birds!

Our birds seem tired from the heat - however a huge red tail hawk flew through the garden last evening when we were eating in the gazebo, trailed by the usual screeching blue jays - they just always seem mad to have a hawk in their territory.

Hope summer is lovely in one of my favorite towns. Sadly not coming your way this year!
    Hugs - Mary

  6. I love seeing how animals take such good care of their young. People could learn from them!
I hope the Washington state wildfires are not affecting you. My friend who lives in Bothell is a retired Forest Service employee and has responded to them. I thought of you when I saw the story on the news. I hope the fires will die out by themselves. It's always such a helpless feeling to see them raging and spreading.

  9. There is nothing more fascinating than watching geese and other wild foul in the water. I especially liked the geese all in a line. It never crossed my mind they would be training for migration. So... I learned something new.

  11. I so much enjoy watching the birds on the water. The geese in a line are fun - playing follow the leader. I wonder if they take turns? Wonderful photos of goosey-play.

  12. Hi JoAnn - re hay andsilage - when the grass is cut and lying on the ground, it is the same. If it is being made into hay it needs to be breezy, hot and sunny weather - then the grass is left until it loses all its green colouring and becomes pale and crisp (hopefully - if it doesn't rain)
