We had a party for our youngest daughter's birthday last night - it was a lot of fun!!! My table setting was a green plaid tablecloth and green plaid napkins - Sears Cattail dishes and red handled flatware.
The dishes were made by Sears in the 40s and 50s - I've been collecting them for several years now, and finally have enough to serve the whole family when they come over.
The grandsons had smaller bowls, with flange handles
Red flatware and rattan napkin rings with green plaid napkins - oh and some snow it seems.
I found these green goblets in a thrift store on Camano Island a couple years ago - but only four
And then recently I found some clear ones in the same design - so I alternated green and clear
For a simple seasonal centerpiece I clipped some evergreens from our yard and put them in small bottles with ribbons around the bottles
Picmonkey and I had a lot of fun today with photos.
The evergreens smelled wonderful when I clipped them - but by the time the lasagna was done cooking you could smell nothing but the wonderful, fragrant lasagna.
Before dinner was served I had a little snack set up of Chex Mix - which a friend calls Nuts and Bolts - and so I shall call it that from now on.
Served in small crystal cups, from a large crystal bowl - with a red handled scoop.
It was a wonderful birthday party - lots of family - lots of good food - lots of laughs and of course presents - and dessert was mince pie and apple pie - but I forgot to photograph them before we gobbled them all up - but I can assure you - they were delicious. And I had them all set up on the three tiered plate stand and then forgot to take pictures - maybe at christmas I'll have more pies to take pictures of.
How do you celebrate birthdays that are near Christmas?
What a beautifully set table JoAnn. I am sure the food was just as good.
ReplyDeleteLuckily we have no birthdays to celebrate around Christmas!
Hi JoAnn, I can smell your lasagna all the way in Ohio. What a wonderful birthday dinner. I love the Sears cattail plates. They look so pretty with a red border and red cattails for a pretty holiday accent. They look like they have a linen pattern in the plates, very attractive! The green and clear goblets look so festive too. Such a beautiful holiday birthday table for your family. Have fun and have a wonderful week!

What a gorgeous table, JoAnn. I love those cattail dishes and of course, the green glassware. The menu sounds delicious...who doesn't like lasagna!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very Merry Christmas!
You set a fabulous table! Love the patterned dishes and those glass goblets. Yes, in Canada we call that snack "nuts and bolts" -- our recipe has straight pretzels, shreddies and cheerios in it. Hence the name.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful table! Extra festive in that it's celebrating both a birthday and the holidays. Those plates certainly look worth collecting. I like the effects you've tried.
ReplyDeleteI often intend to photograph food and by the time it comes to do that I've gotten too hungry and eager to remember to take pictures. And by the time I remember to do it there's little more than crumbs and smiles...
The table looked perfect for a Birthday so close to Christmas. Sounds like everyone had a fantastic time. Take care and have a great day. Jen
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, JoAnn! I just love the tablecloth with your beautiful red rimmed dishes and flatware. And those glasses are gorgeous- how amazing that you found the same pattern in clear glass, too! Even your 'nuts and bolts' look very elegant in your crystal serving dishes. Love the evergreens in the bottles, too. Funny, I just asked you if you took photos and then here they are! So lovely - your daughter must have felt so special. Hugs xo Karen
ReplyDeleteWe have two December birthdays and two January birthdays in our family. It is a challenge to make the day special when it is so close to a big celebration. Your table and all the goodies accomplished that!
ReplyDeleteThat setting needs to be in a home decorating magazine. We have no birthdays in either December or January. My birthday falls on Halloween and was usually deferred or forgotten because of trick-or-treating and other activities.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful table for your girl. I know it was fun!

ReplyDeleteI hope she had a wonderful birthday!
ReplyDeleteLove everything about your table scape!
Our daughter's birthday is the 28th and her daughter's is the 29th. It is always a challenge to celebrate.
Your table is so pretty! I love how you've used evergreens and pretty glassware along with the green checked tablecloth. Lasagne is one of my favorites... I just might stop by for leftovers tomorrow! :-)
ReplyDeleteJoAnn. The table is so pretty. So perfect for a birthday dinner close to Christmas. I love those dishes and have seen them over the years. How great you were able to find enough for your family dinners. Happy Birthday to the Birthday Girl. My son's birthday was just before Christmas and so is our grandsons. There always has to be a birthday AND a Christmas celebration..Happy Sunday (Almost Monday)..Judy
ReplyDeleteYou created a fun and attractive table for the birthday celebration. I haven't seen that pattern of dishware before and it's nice that you've been able to collect so much of it.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun series of photos, and I love White Rock, friends live there, I always wanted to live there and it was fun to see your photos and mention of it.
ReplyDeleteBoth our daughter and grandson have December birthdays...in fact, we just celebrated the grandson's this past weekend! I LOVE your table setting and all the wonderful photos! The green check tablecloth goes so perfectly with the goblets and the plates, etc. Really lovely! We just went out to eat and I will be posting the photos of the cakes. My family has a long tradition of cake decorating, though I got out of it for a number of years. I still haven't made a picture of me holding your book, but promise I will soon. Just added the book to my sidebar if you want to check it out.
