In the woods - Elderberry forest are in full bloom
Their delicate flowers smell sweet - and make the best fritters you've ever tasted
We spotted this entrance to a private campground
Scampering across it was this squirrel - about to "spring" into the woods.
Salmon berries
And Wild Plum
And what would spring be without Horsetail Ferns - one of the oldest plants on the planet
They start out brown - and a bit prehistoric looking, don't you think?
And then the green comes out - the horsetail
They will soon cover this entire hillside - lovely green sprays that resemble fountains in the spring.

I just love the dogwood blossoms! They are my favorite! Gorgeous photos of the lovely spring flowers and the horsetail. So glad that spring is here! xx
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your woods! And I supposed you'll be doing a post on those fritters soon ? Hey...go back and pick some if you didn't, then! :)
ReplyDeleteSo green and beautiful! I've never seen horsetail - very unusual!
ReplyDeleteLove, love the dogwood blooms. My garden is too cold to grow them:(
ReplyDeleteI got behind in reading blogs and have to start supper but loved reading your last 5 posts. One of my favorites was the old motel signs. I remember staying in those old places. No wifi, no cell phones, no tablets.....just spending lots of quality time with the family.

Great photos of spring in the woods. This is such a lovely time of year here. Those creamy dogwoods are my favorites. The horsetails, pretty as they may be, can stay in the woods and not venture into my yard!
ReplyDeleteI don't think any of those plants grow here, and I wish they did. This is a very nice collection of spring blooms. Nice.
ReplyDeleteThe horse tail ferns are an interesting plant, I've seen them growing here too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blossoms, another week or so and we'll be in the same phase.
Beautiful! I'm certainly ready for spring to come and visit here for a while. I am so glad you shared the horsetail fern. I've seen those, but I didn't know what they were.
ReplyDeletewhat a marvelous assortment of beautiful blooms you captured!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos of spring in the woods. The horsetail ferns are a new one to me and very interesting looking. The dogwood blooms are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing these spring photos. Pamela at playingwithmycamera
ReplyDeleteSo many lovely flowers and trees, what a pretty place.
ReplyDeleteAfter checking with my daughter, we think your plum is Prunus emarginata, or common names, "Bitter Cherry", Quinine Cherry" or "Wild Cherry". Thanks for all the great pictures.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing spring up your way, Jo. It's lovely. We are having rain, rain, rain. It looks a bit like Ireland outside it's so green so the grass is loving it. Us? Not so much. It pounds on the copper roof of the little porch and makes racket going down the gutters. That's how much rain we are having!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I posted today, and I'm having blogger issues which forced me to post again. If you get two posts from me on your reader, you'll understand why. It's just nuts. I hope this will clear up because it's hard to explain why I'm doing that.
XO,
Sheila
Wonderful series. I love the dogwood blossoms.
ReplyDeleteI especially love those dogwood blossoms. And I wonder if we have elderberry around here. I don't think I've seen those blossoms, nor the beginning of the horsetails. I've learned something new today!
ReplyDeleteJoAnn,
