Driving along - what do we see perched up on a fence? A pheasant - in full mating plumage. They are rare around here - so this was a spectacular chance. He posed for us for quite some time - I'm sure he was very proud of his lovely feathers. He's just too pretty for one photo - these are all my top shot of the week!!!

Pheasants are so common here JoAnn. Each morning I have both cocks and hens at my bird feeders and they roost in our wood overnight. I am going to do a post on them tomorrow providing my computer allows me to (it is playing up at the moment)- they ae handsome birds aren;t they?

I LOVE these shots... last spring in the Palouse driving along in the middle of no where, I came over a rise and there in the middle of the road was a freshly killed male pheasant in all his sadly deceased glory... I couldn't let all those gorgeous feathers go to waste, so I took some to bring home. My husband and son both sport some in their respective hats... Back to your capture, I like them all you caught his plumage beautifully, but LOVE the last shot most, him departing the scene! It made me chuckle... I'm so glad you came by to share on Weekly Top Shot #70!

I LOVE these shots! A local hunting group for many years raised and released pheasants for hunting in a county "recreation" area near our home. We've had many refugee pheasants pecking around our yard but I've never gotten close enough to get shots like this. (Thankfully the hunting ended this year. We've many natural predators so I fear there won't be many survivors.)

these are fantastic, take me back to my PA childhood where pheasants were abundant...two years ago my husband and I saw a pair not far from our home in NH...such grand birds and your photos are just stunning!
