Black and White Wednesday

On our regular route through town on the way to Skagit (sounds like gadget) Valley, something caught my eye.  Quick. Turn Around.  What was that?

In a clearing, down a hillside (Bellingham is built on a series of many hills and gullies, very little actual flat land) there was an old building.
This had been a very heavily wooded gully - and it had been logged recently and scraped bare for a new housing development - except for the old barn - or was it an old house?  I can't decide which.  It isn't shaped like a regular barn - but doesn't have the windows one would expect of a house.
How long had it been there, deserted and left to be covered with blackberry vines and trees?
What stories does it have to tell?  Who looked out that door?  Were they far, far out of town then?  And now the house is in the middle of town.  And why did the construction company leave it standing?  There was no one around to ask - and there was a locked gate so we couldn't drive down the hill.
What was in the lean-to?  Did the family cow find shelter there?  Were there chickens roosting, waiting for morning so they could scratch about in the yard?
Moss on the roof and ferns sprouting out the top.
What secrets do you have, dear old

…….and I'm certain I've seen it in a movie set! A horror movie perhaps?
What secrets it might hold - why is it still there?

Do love the mossy roof - but fancy the blackberries best left unpicked!!!

It still looks surprisingly sturdy, all things considered.

Oh don't you just wish this old building could tell its tale? Looks like a barn to me because of the lack of windows, but who knows? I wonder what will happen to it?
Beautiful photos. The black and white just adds to the historical look.

How intriguing! I wonder whether it would be possible to trace its history. A project for the winter?

It does look like a house to me but without windows? What a wonderful old building but life must have been incredibly hard back then.

Hi Jo! How cool that you spied it! Especially like the cupola on the roof. Just like you in your wonderings. How cool I don't have to explain them all to you!

That building is very interesting. I wonder if it could have been an old store? Maybe storage in the shed... but what about the second floor? Who knows.

it does look like an old house.. it's kinda weird though its windows are quite small for a house, and I love the shots. Stunning!

Nice and mysterious for this time of year! The black and white setting gives it an aura of the 1800s. Very intriguing and fun to speculate who built this shelter and for what reason! You sure find the most interesting things! I know I've said this before, but out of all the blogs I read, this is where I see the most unusual buildings and best shots of wildlife!

What an amazing find! You ask all the questions I would about this enigma! And what an enigma it is! Barn? Outbuilding? Workshop?? These B&W shots are wonderful, too! Love this!
